Alngith’s aims, goals and objectives

Our aim is to address the natural and cultural management priorities in accordance with the directions of Alngith bosses, guardians and cultural authorities.

The township of Weipa and the associated bauxite mining operation, run by Rio Tinto,  are located on leases surrounded by land held under various title by the recognised traditional owners. We have designated certain areas of land inside  the lease areas as Alngith properties. A focus of Alngith’s activities is the development and implementation of culturally and environmentally appropriate resource management strategies for these areas, and our sacred sites across the whole of our Country.

Alngith seeks to provide residents and visitors with an enjoyable safe experience on our Country and at the same time an avenue for enhancing their awareness of Alngith cultural values, priorities and way of life.
